Average Hourly Wage
For Paid Internship at NEOintern
Compensation for interns can include wages and benefits, academic credit and/or scholarships.
In Northeast Ohio, a good source for evaluating reasonable compensation for an intern is the annual internship survey conducted by the Employers Resource Council in partnership with NOCHE. The 2011 survey of 102 Northeast Ohio companies revealed that they paid interns from an average of $10.00 per hour for Human Resources jobs to an average of $14.50 per hour for Information Technology jobs. Research internships (data collection/analysis, scientific, social science) also commanded higher rates, ranging between $12.00 and $16.65 per hour. The majority of respondents (79%) reported that they offered interns full-time employment when available.
Many companies offer benefits to interns. Although not all of these benefits are monetary in nature, they are all valuable and can help strengthen the appeal of the internship to students, therefore resulting in a bigger and better candidate pool. Some reported benefits offered to interns by local firms include the following:
- 401(k)
- Specialized training
- Social events
- Free parking
- Gas compensation/transportation
- Performance bonuses
- Tuition reimbursement
- Paid holidays/sick days
