Why Intern?
No one needs to tell you that college is expensive. And the current economic climate can make finding a job even harder. How long do you want your children to live at home after graduation while they are looking for a job?
Internships can help.
The majority of internships are paid, giving students much needed income. And the experience your child can gain builds his or her resume and network of contacts, and increases the likelihood he or she will have a job upon graduation.
How do we know?
We’re just reporting the facts. A 2006 study found that 57% of interns receive full-time job offers, and 50% of students with internship experience receive higher salaries at their first jobs than those that never completed an internship.
What can you do?
Encourage your child to look for an internship. Part-time during the semester or full-time during the summer are both good options.
To get the best internship possible, students must write a good resume and have a great interview. Make sure they work closely with their career services team, and the process will be much easier for everyone involved (click here for a listing of all Northeast Ohio career services offices).
