Small Companies Benefit from Big Talent – Entrepreneurial Interns

Cleveland, OH, Thursday, August 29, 2012– More than 40 entrepreneurial interns recounted their internship experiences at the NOCHE Entrepreneurial Internship Expo at Shaker LaunchHouse in August.  Maire Reynolds of Rocky River, Ohio, was named “Best in Show” for her presentation about her experience at Something New Entertainment, an event planning small business in Akron, Ohio.

As an intern at Something New Entertainment, Maire Reynolds (Rocky River, OH) was an integral part of the event planning team.  From helping to set up and tear down equipment to managing client relations, Reynolds found that her internship for an entrepreneurial company allowed her to be involved in all the tasks necessary to run a successful business, while also helping her to prepare for the working world.

“I knew that in order to stand out [in a crowded job market] I needed to have something other than lifeguarding on my resume. Interning gave me a chance to learn more about my interests and to polish my real world skills,” says Reynolds, a rising senior at St. Bonaventure University in New York.

“Internships provide entrepreneurs with highly skilled talent that boosts productivity and innovation,” said NOCHE Executive Director Ann Womer Benjamin.  “The college students gain an appreciation for the rigors of working for a small company in a fast-paced environment, but most agree that after graduation they want to work for a small company or even start their own.”

NOCHE’s Entrepreneurial Internshipship Program pairs talented students with start-up and entrepreneurial companies.  This year, 49 students interned at 27 companies in Northeast Ohio.
